Discovery

The Discovery phase is the foundation of the design process. This stage focuses on understanding the problem, defining objectives, and gathering the insights needed to make informed design decisions.

There are often many points with varying priorities, that can create a puzzle that’s complicated to solve.

  • Quality

  • Price

  • Time

  • Market

  • Trends

  • Materials

  • Manufacturing

  • Supply

  • Volume

The aim is to build a project for a product, that meets demand at the right price, to relevant market.

Concept

The Concept phase transforms insights from discovery into clear, creative design directions. This stage is about exploring ideas, visualising possibilities, and testing different approaches before committing to a final solution. Concepts are developed, refined, and evaluated to ensure they meet user needs, technical requirements, and project goals.

Key activities include:

  • Generating and exploring multiple design ideas

  • Translating insights into visual and functional concepts

  • Creating sketches, diagrams, and early visualisations

  • Evaluating concepts against requirements and constraints

  • Gathering feedback and iterating on ideas

  • Selecting and refining preferred concepts for development

This phase balances creativity with feasibility, setting the direction for detailed design and development

Development

The Development phase turns concepts into tangible, manufacturable products. This phase focuses on refining designs, validating functionality, and preparing for production, ensuring that the final product meets quality, usability, and technical requirements.

Key activities include:

  • Prototyping and testing ideas in real-world conditions

  • Engineering for performance, durability, and manufacturability

  • Creating detailed CAD models and assemblies

  • Iterating designs based on feedback and test results

  • Collaborating with suppliers to ensure smooth transition to manufacture

This stage bridges creativity and execution, transforming concepts into fully developed, market-ready products

Production

Getting the product to market is a skill that requires attention to detail and a respect to the concept. It's important not to dilute the idea and support the product through to manufacture.

Understanding a clients manufacturing capability and leading suppler technology, is key to developing a commercial product.

Services can include:

  • Component engineering

  • CAD assemblies

  • Supplier liaison

  • Full working prototypes

  • Production ready drawings

  • Production testing

Use part or all the services on offer. We can team up and find a way to make it work.
